Played a fundamental role in establishing both the Puritan culture that characterized the leading English colonists in America
Born in Suffolk, England
Studied law at Gray's Inn
Was concerned over England's growing anti-Puritanism beliefs
Set off for North America in 1630 with 400 other Puritans.
